Hello and Season's greetings

Well, we just finished putting up our Christmas decorations, including the ones from Mom with all our names on them, which is nice because it causes us to take a moment to think of all of you as we deck the halls. I hope all are doing well this season and that this Christmas time brings peace and joy to the hearts of all of you. And remember at the center of all the busyness and commercialism, that the reason for this season is to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jason, I don't know if you check in to the blog much, but in case you didn't get my message, Happy belated birthday. If you did get my message, then you are a big loser for not calling back. I know losers, because I am one was well. Happy Birthday.

Musings for a Friday

Running:
So Tim just barely made a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon in his recent bid, but only by seconds. Nancy ran the San Francisco Marathon and ran a time of 3 hours and 50 minutes. Not bad I think...actually, she is catching up on Tim's time. My question is...what is the draw to running in our 40's? Are we running from something? are we battling middle-age? I know I am just at the beginning of training for the Edinburgh Marathon in 2010 as a wee testament to my battle with Guillain Barre Syndrome, and it is going to be painful. Don't be surprised if I turn it into the Edinburgh Pub Crawl.

Obama:
Whether you voted for him or not, you have to love seeing people taking to the streets celebrating an American election. Does anyone have any recollection of that at any other time in our lives? I won't go into my politics, but I think the lesson for Republicans is that it is time to move more towards the center. The Christian Right has proven to be anything but Christian. I think if you judge others, discriminate and are intolerant you may have a hard time adhereing to the Christian Creed. Actually, I will go into my politics, I mean what is a blg for after all. I think the election of Obama shows the world how a true democracy works, that the oil money and lobbyists fell short and the masses turn out and put the right man in for the job. And seeing the recent feeding frenzy of Sarah Palin by the right-wing media and her exposed lack of knowledge of not only NAFTA, but of geography...she would have been a disaster in the administration. McCain's time was in 2000. I saw him speak, he was a powerful speaker with unique ideas and a truly maverick approach and then "W" and Karl Rove went at him like Swift Boat Veterans and he was sunk by his own party. His embrace of Bush for 2008 was his undoing and I was disappointed to see a great man lose his focus. Will Obama rase taxes? Yup. You can't even begin to address a 700 billion dollar bail out and multi-trillion dollar two front war with a collapsing economy without addressing the need to raise taxes and McCain would have done the same thing. So the road ahead is tough, there will be more bad news before there is good news. But hang in there. The world has rallied once again for America and watching blacks, whites, asians, and hispanics celebrate together was truly an American moment in time that should be cherished.

Sarah:
Good luck this weekend and CONGRATS!!

Uncle Davy and Mary:
You guys haven't been driving around your neighborhood in Florida in a golf cart I hope. That would make you both redneck and Floridian and that is unacceptable.

Alice and Dick:
My mother and I went to the Alzheimer's Assocation for some guidance and resources in dealing with my dad. It was a great meeting and we got alot of good stuff out of it. Primarily coping mechanisms as well as some milestones we need to establish and hit. So far so good. My father is kind of plateauing. he hasn't gotten significantly worse or signficiantly better. The Beatles said it best...this is going to be a "long and winding road" or maybe the Grateful Dead said it best "What a long strange it's been".

That's all for now.

Irish Famine Statues on the River LIffey in Dublin

Dublin

Well it was along 17 days. We purchased an HD camera prior to leaving the US so we could really maximize the stuff we would be shooting. We landed in Dublin and had to stay awake for roughly 36 hours to get adjusted to the time as quickly as possible. So what better way to kill time than to take a tour of the Guinness Brewery at St. James Gate in Dublin. You also get a free pint at the Gravity Bar at the top of the brewery which has a 360 degree view of Dublin. Dublin is very much like Boston...very big, congested, full of crazy one way streets and you can't throw a stick without hitting a pub. We toured Trinity College and did some investigating into the Irish Famine (we are developing a treatment for a documentary and will keep you posted on that). We spent time at the Temple Bar Pub in Temple Bar which is like a crazy version of Fanueil Hall. Saturday morning at 11:30 and the fiddles are playing and banjos strumming and everyone is really enjoying the "Craic"...pronounced "crack" and the locals use the word often. We stayed two nights in Dublin and during that time the counties of Tyrone from the north and Kerry from the southwest are meeting at Croke Park to play for the All Ireland Gaelic Athletic Association Football Championship. Dublin was packed with the Green and Gold and the Red and White. the GAA is all amateur and Croke Park holds 80,000 fans. We met up with the group that we would be bringing around Ireland and had a pint at the Hairy Lemon on Grafton Street. I was shooting and playing tour host for the time there. On Monday it was off to Galway (to be continued)

Tim Running October 19th!

Hi everyone,
Just want to let everyone know that Tim and I have been training this summer to get Tim qualified for the 2009 Boston Marathon. His first attempt will be Oct. 19th in Lowell at the Baystate Marathon. If anyone wants to come and support us that would be really cool. I'll report back with the results

Summer updates

Hello Clan,
So some update on what life has been like for the Washington Ave Hegarty Clan. Timmy and I are coordinating a Gullain Barre Syndrome Road Race for May of 2009. Thank God for Tim, he is the driving force behind this and I couldn't do it without him. Right now we are doing some coordinating and connecting to players in the arena to get details worked out. Keep your eye out for details.

September 19-October 6th, 2008. Tube Media Production, Inc, OK, me and Chris are headed back to Ireland. Tenon Tours will be sending us this year. It will consist of 2 days in Dublin, 3 days in Galway, and 2 days in County Cork...this is repeated for the second week. This time we are also acting more as hosts with the groups that are coming along. So it should be a blast.

November 2008. there is a Gullain Barre Syndrome International Symposium in Chicago which also includes a Walk-a-thon fundraiser. Genie and I have contacted the international GBS foundation that is sponsoring this. I am hoping I might be able to convince them to make a video for this...and who better to use than Tube?

May 2010: I am beginning training for the Edinburgh Marathon as a GBS fund raiser. Today was my first attempt at running on a treadmill, and I was succesful, so I was very psyched that I didn't fall or passout. So the training begins and I am so excited to run in Edinburgh, Scotland. I will be sending out information and sponsorship opportunities for this amazing opportunity...and if we want to coordinate a Hegarty trip to the Scottish part of our ancestry, what better time to do so. Just think...the Hegartys hanging at Grey Friar's Pub and chatting up the locals, truly an awesome time.

Wedding Day

Well it was awesome seeing everyone at the wedding. I really wish we could get together more often and not only at major family events. I had a blast!

Comparison of the candidates

Okay, I had told myself I would put this together when I first saw Richie's post about politics, but I was lazy and procrastinated and now we're down to just two candidates (more or less). I thought it might help those of us who aren't too politically savvy to form a better opinion about the candidates if they were compared side by side. It was pretty easy to do since there are websites out there devoted to that sort of thing, and I got most of the info from one site, http://www.comparecandidates2008.com/. I checked out other sites as well and kind of meshed and added where appropriate if they had additional info, but most were all about the same. I couldn't, however, copy and paste what I had done to the blog post, so I did it in separate pieces. It doesn't look as nice as the table I made that I saved in Word, but the info is all there. Anyway, I hope it helps some people or at least proves informative.

I hope everyone is doing okay. We just heard about Christian (shows how out of touch we are with what is going on) and have added him to our prayer list. Richie, I have been following along with your progress through your posts, have prayed for you all along and am glad all is moving in the right direction for you in so many ways.

Now that I've flapped my gums some (so to speak) I will probably go back to observing from the sidelines again because I'm just a loser that way.

Jamie

PS. I liked the videos. Richie, is there a way to attach/add just an audio piece? just wondering.

Name
R - John McCain - more>>
Current Job
Senator from AZ
Iraq
Supports current Administration plan. McCain thinks Bush's strategy in Iraq can succeed, and that if the U.S. fails to stabilize Iraq now, the threat of terrorism against American interests will grow. McCain has strongly criticized Democrats who support a troop withdrawal timeline, but has also criticized the administration for mishandling the war. He says Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history.
Foreign Affairs
Believes Iran's nuclear proliferation is a grave risk, and could further destabilize the region.
Homland Security
Supports Patriot Act and wants intelligence officials to have all tools they need. Opposes detaining enemy combatants without legal rights.
Immigration
Supports path to citizenship for illegals already in the country, while tightening current border patrol. McCain wants a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would improve border surveillance and enforcement, strengthen penalties against those who hire illegal immigrants, and stop document fraud. He wants to develop a guest worker program that allows illegal immigrants to earn legitimate status. McCain sponsored the 2006 comprehensive immigration reform bill. Had it passed, it would have allowed some illegal immigrants already in the U.S. to work and apply to become legal residents after learning English, paying fines and back taxes, and clearing a background check. McCain believes that securing the borders is one of the federal government's most important obligations.
Economy
Supports lowering taxes to help small businesses. McCain says tax cuts work best in conjunction with lower spending. He blames excessive spending for Republican losses in the 2006 elections. McCain was one of two Republican senators to oppose the 2001 tax cuts, arguing that too many of the benefits went to the most fortunate at the expense of the middle class. He also opposed the 2003 tax cuts. McCain says he would not raise taxes, but that he would not go as far as to sign a pledge to that effect. He believes a repeal of the estate tax isn't necessary.

Education
Supports sending federal dollars directly to local schools, cutting back on red tape.
Energy
McCain is the chief co-sponsor of a bill that sets mandatory caps on greenhouse emissions. His plan would allow companies to trade excess carbon emission capacity, and would require emissions to return to 2004 levels by 2012 and to 1990 levels by 2020. McCain wants to see more investment in alternative-energy sources such as nuclear power, ethanol, fuel cells, bio-diesel, and natural gas. He believes ethanol will play a big part in energy independence.

Climate Change
Believes nation can't ignore global warming. Supports cutting emissions through market forces that will bring about cleaner technology.
Health
Supports importing prescription drugs to lower costs.
Social Security
Says Social Security is failing, partially because it's being unfairly raided to fund other government programs
Stem Cell Research
Supports embryonic stem-cell research
Same Sex Marriage
Opposes same-sex marriage (believes it's a state issue)
Abortion
Anti-abortion. McCain believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and that the abortion question should be left to the individual states to legislate. He has called abortion a human tragedy, and believes community action can go far in "the fight for life" by promoting alternatives to abortion and providing expectant mothers with the necessary support.

Gun Control
Supports background checks for gun buyers.

Name
D - Barack Obama - more>>
Current Job
Senator from IL
Iraq
Obama supports capping troop levels, and favors a timeline for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. He introduced a bill that would cap the number of troops in Iraq at 130,000, the number on the ground before the recent surge. Obama was not in the Senate in 2002, but was opposed to the Iraq war from the start.
Foreign Affairs
Supports more monitoring of nuclear technology to make sure it stays out of terrorist hands. Believes more needs to be done to stop conflict in Africa.
Homland Security
Wants Homeland Security money targeted more towards high-risk areas. Supports better protection for chemical plants. Wants more tracking of spent nuclear fuel so it doesn't end up in terrorist hands.
Immigration
Obama says it is vital to bring out of the shadows the 12 million illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S. by implementing a system through which illegals could earn citizenship by paying a fine, learning English, and waiting their turn behind legal immigrants. Obama says the U.S. needs a better employment verification system and more serious employer sanctions for those who hire illegal immigrants. He also voted for the 2006 Kennedy-McCain immigration reform bill and is in favor of a border fence. Supports a fence along Mexican border. Supports tougher laws to keep illegals from finding jobs. Supports granting citizenship to illegals already here as long as they pay fines and back taxes.
Economy
Supports tax incentives to companies that keep jobs in the US. Believes NAFTA needs to be renegotiated to protect American economy. Obama would let expire tax cuts for households earning more than $250,000. He acknowledges that additional revenue might be needed to achieve his health care goals, but says a large amount of money can be saved within the existing system.
Education
Supports rewarding good teachers with better pay, and expanding summer learning programs. Wants to increase federal grants for college education.
Energy
Obama would create a cap-and-trade system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, taking revenues generated from the program to help those negatively impacted by the limits. He would also raise fuel efficiency standards for cars. Obama would establish a National Low Carbon Fuel Standard that would require all transportation fuels to contain 5 percent less carbon by 2015 and 10 percent less carbon by 2020. He believes the plan would spur investment in renewable fuels and help reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions. Supports more renewable energies, and wants to look into clean coal uses to get the US away from foreign oil dependency. Proposed giving automakers help with health coverage in exchange for more hybrid production.
Climate Change
Believes global warming will bring devastating consequences if it's not stopped. Supports capping emissions with incentives to corporations that cut greenhouse gases.
Health
Supports universal health care, and believes government should buy prescription drugs in bulk to reduce costs. Wants hospitals to be graded on performance and make a switch to cost-effective, computerized record-keeping.
Social Security
Opposes privatization, and believes the system can be fixed with minor changes
Stem Cell Research
Supports embryonic stem-cell research
Same Sex Marriage
Supports civil unions, but not same-sex marriage.
Abortion
Pro-choice Obama supports abortion rights. He opposed restrictions on public financing of abortions while serving in the Illinois legislature. He said partial-birth abortion only focuses on 1 percent of all cases, and would entrust a woman to make such a decision for herself.

Gun Control
Supports bans on assault weapons and concealed weapons.

HAPPY 4th of JULY

Hey everybody, its been a while since I've blogged, however I have been keeping an eye on it. Glad to see Jason pop in. It was good to here from you Jay. I wish more of us would just write something, and not leave it up to Rich. With the Summer Olympics coming up maybe we will have something to say to each other.

Dads wedding is soon, so we will see each other.

The marathon was one of the toughest things I have ever done and I would like to attempt it again, hopefully next year, 2009. I have been trying to keep up with the running. I am working towards 4 times a week right now.

Lets all keep Christian in our prayers.

Happy 4th of July

Love you all.

June Update

Well hello clan!
It is June 5th, almost two months since I was originally diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. Today I am about 95% back to normal. I can walk without the assistance of a cane. I have finished my physical therapy. I have been working out at Planet Fitness in Woburn, which I highly recommend...$10 a month. I am not able to fully run or jump yet, not that there is much call for that, but when you can;t do it, it ain't much fun. I have very little residual tingling in the hands and feet and the back is almost 100% pain free. Absolutely amazing. Prayer works and don't let anyone tell you any differently. I have been going to mass at St. Patrick's with my mom and dad and that has been awesome. It's so much different when you want to be there, rather than feeling obligated. But I guess that applies to a lot of things. Now I need to move the production of the Guillain Barre Syndrome Public Service Announcement into action. My goal is to have it in the can by the end of July.

My mom and I have followed up with stuff on my dad. We met with the neurologist, the same one that diagnosed my GBS. Nothing surprizing as far as MRI and blood tests. But at least we have some paperwork that we can then use to provide to the powers that be regarding some support. In the event my father's needs change, we need to be ready, and that is what we are doing. My mom remains strong, but his condition ways heavy on her heart. When you look at her circle of friends, far too many left this Earth far too soon. But in her eyes, she has that many on the other side rooting her on. I don't expect any major news on my father anytime soon, just kind of wait and watch to see if his behavior takes a significant shift.

Wedding news. I did get my invitation. Right now my company is bidding on a production that will have us videotaping a yacht race from P-town to Yarmouth, Novia Scotia from July 17-21st. I just re-read that sentence and it sounds so incredibly pompous...cool. I don't know if we have the gig yet and I have told Uncle Davy about it. In the event I am land-bound I will be there and yes, I will be wearing my kilt. Hey, it's formal wear! Yes, I see the pink elephant in the room, as do you all. My only thought, as I have said before, life is too short. This clan has experienced too many unexpected departures. There is no guarantee of a tomorrow, so keep that in mind.

Well that is the update for now. Life gets better everyday, God's grace and blessings are amazing. Mary, The Blessed Mother, has a place of tremendous importance in my heart and I recommend you reach out to her when you find yourself in times of trouble. As always, Live and Love.

Road to recovery

Hi Hegarty Clan!
First, thank you very much for the awesome cards, calls and prayers. It's amazing what an impact it makes. You know it's like that Verizon ad with the network of people following behind you. I feel like I have the best network of friends and familes standing behind me offering all the support I could possibly use. So let me tell you what that support has done for me. I have been to three rehabilitation appointments. My therapists has said that I appear strong and that my focus is on my balance and stamina. I continue to exercise and push myself as hard as I can to walk up and down stairs, work on my core strength, eat better and get plenty of rest. During this period I have also had a mysterious temperature that broke after a week. But the result was more blood test which has revealed that I need some follow up work on my liver. Apparently the medicine I was given to fight the Guillain Barre in the hospital does a job on your liver...so that is tremendously fun. I will most likely have an ultrasound on that sometime in the next week, but I feel pretty certain it will return to its normal reading soon. During this time I also discovered I have Hypothyroidism...it runs in the family and the hormones I am taking for that seem to be working. The great side effect is that my weight is getting closer to the desired weight for my height. I have lost roughly 20 pounds since this all began. I can walk around the house without a cane, but I am less hesitent to do that while out of the house. My leg strength has increased and I plan on joining Planet Fitness to supplement the work I am doing at rehab...I lost a lot of muscle through this and need to get my ripped and chiseled form back. I attended my first GBS support group with my mom and dad and it was awesome to see a room full of people dealing with the same thing I am. Some parts of the session were discouraging, but you just have to keep in focus that everyone has a different story despite the common GBS connection. I am meeting with the founder of the support group to help develop a walk for GBS next spring. I know there are so many walks for all causes, but this particular syndrome needs as much help as possible to get the word out. I also found out GBS was featured on an episode of "House"...makes perfect sense. So overall, I am making excellent progress, I still have issues with feeling in my hands and feet, but this will come back...it is just a matter of time. My mom is doing excellent, a lot of time with her has been awesome.

In terms of the business, Christine has been holding down the fort quite well and continues to bring in new business and getting productions finished. I hope to go on a shoot tomorrow with one of my favorite clients, Cornerstone Mitsubishi, that's the plan. I will then start going to the office a couple of days next week. My client, Brain Moore International Tours, has been talking about sending us back to Ireland at some point this summer for a week on the West Coast of Erin. They also had some potential work with the Travel Tourism Board of Scotland and if that brings me back to Scotland I will be completely out of my mind.

So, life looks better everyday. I improve a little more everyday. I appreciate my friends and families more and more with each breath I take. And I thank God for the miracles He has performed in my life. I also have to give Praise to Mother Mary, St. Jude, St. Theresa, and St. Patrick. Final thought: don't wait till you are knocked off your feet to look around and see the wonder of those in your life...you all make me smile.

Live and Love,
Richie

Washington Ave Updates

Hi Hegarty Clan!
First of all a super congratulations to Tommy for running and finishing the Marathon for Dana Farber and your mom. You did us all proud and made the heavens a little brighter. A special "WooHoo" to Tim for beating the odds and finishing the Marathon in a respectable time. For the record, I had no doubt he would. The most he had run was 12 miles if I am correct, but when your heart is in it, there really is nothing you can't do. Well done mi amigo!

Well I am home from the hospital and today I have my first physical therapy session at New England Rehab. I have been staying on my mom's side of the house because of her pull-out sofa and proximity to the bathroom, etc. The numbness in my feet and hands continues to bother me, but I have been moving alot more at home and now am able to walk short distances with the assistance of a cane. I will burn the walker as soon as I find a way to burn metal. I am in good spirits and try to maintain a positive attitude, but this syndrom is so rare and bizzare that the road ahead is unclear. I don't know how long it will take to get back to 100%, but the good news is that I will most likely achieve it. Sim Piergentili and my sister Nancy are going to start training me for the Edinburgh Marathon in May of 2010. Hey, just another chance to wear my kilt! Emotionally, I have no early warning system. I am often flooded with all kinds of feelings...mostly grateful that I have the support I have around me. Family and friends that have been unbelievable. Tim brought by a couple of teddy bears to the hospital that were passed among the congregation of his church and filled with good wishes and prayers. Tim, I cannot express in words how much that meant to me. One teddy bear was for my kids and the little brown one was for me...it has not left my side and I sleep with it every night. Someday I want to come to your church and address the congregation to let them know there truly is power in prayer. Speaking of power in prayer, this experience has been life-changing. During my lowest points, when I was unsure of what I had and my body was breaking down I prayed like I never have before. I leaned heavily on Auntie Marie to hold my hand and guide me through...I know she is new to the heavens, but I have a feeling she has made her presence known. I started receiving communion while in the hospital and have a tremendously stronger connection to my Creator. So now I have a mission. To spread the word about Guillian-Barre Syndrome through a new blog I am developing, a Public Service Announcement I will produce with my video production company, and I recently reached out to the Serge Payer Foundation. He is an NHL start that was struck with GBS and has a foundation to raise funds and awareness. Additionally, I am making myself available to Winchester Hospital as an advocate for anyone that comes to the hospital with GBS. I want to be able to provide some relief to those struck with this. Oh, and I am going back to church on a regular basis..I mean He came to me when I needed Him most, and I will never forget that.

So that's the latest for now. My mom has been amazing through this and I could not have done this without her. She says she loves the company, and I love being able to talk with her over a cup of tea...so it works for both of us. My dad remains confused by it all, but we are making progress with his situation as well and have already had an appointment with a neurologist. Oddly enough, the same doctor that diagnosed my GBS. I will post again with more and update you on my progress as well as my dad's. Thanks again for your prayers, thoughts, and calls. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing clan. Never forget it, life is too short and unpredictable.

Live and Love,
Richie

Beannachtaí na Féile Páraic oraibh!

In honor of Saint Patrick's Day I thought I post a brief history of our irish Surname:
Hegarty, sometimes O'Hegarty but seldom Haggerty in Ireland (a form of the name found among Irish-Americans), is in Irish O hEigceartaigh (eigceartach means unjust). Though now associated principally with Co. Cork, the Hegartys of Munster are in fact a branch of the main O'Hegarty sept of the Cinel Eoghan which was located on the borders of the present counties of Donegal and Derry. In the fourteenth century the barony of Loughinsholin (Co. Derry) was their principal habitat; in the seventeenth they were more numerous in Tirkeeran (Co. Derry) and Inishowen (Co. Donegal) in the north, and in the baronies of Barrymore and Carbery West in Co. Cork. As is usually the case the present representatives of the sept are to be found in their traditional homeland and are to-day most numerous in Counties Cork, Donegal and Derry. The Ulster sept were subfeudatory to O'Neill's army. The 1691 attainders of O'Hegartys relate to those of Ulster. The records of persecuted priests in the seventeenth century also indicate the Ulster character of the sept up till modern times. The name appears very frequently in the annals of the Irish Brigades and among those who distinguished themselves particularly in this field was Lt. Col. Hegarty of Lally's Regiment, who for his service was rewarded in 1747 by Louis XV of France, while Peter O'Hegarty was made Governor of the Isle of Bourbon. Another Irish Hegarty in eighteenth century France, Daniel O'Hegarty, shipbuilder of Dunkirk, a Catholic, strange as this seems to us now, founded the first Freemason lodge in that country in 1721. According to Dr. Richard Hayes the main object of these lodges, which were largely composed of Jacobite exiles, was the restoration of the house of Stuart. In recent times the name has been less distinguished, though several Hegartys were prominent in the struggle for Irish Independence 1916-1921: of these P.S. O'Hegarty (1879-1955), who was an author of repute, is the best known. The place name Hegarty's Rock at Killygarvan near Lough Swilly commemorates the barbarous and treacherous murder of Father James Hegarty there in 1715.

HELLOOO!!!

neat idea! Not to much to say except that I'M ALL DONE WITH SNOW!!!!!!
Hope all is well with everyone. As for politics I'm for Obama. When I have something intresting to say I'll write again.

Hegarty Business Network

Well since our clan is actually bigger than most networking groups I belong to, I thought, "hey, why not start our own business networking group?" I mean we all do different things, and we can always use more contacts for business. George has his restaurant in Maine, John has his mortgage biz on the west coast, Jamie has prescription drugs, Jason manages sports pubs, and I have my video production company...I think we can all help each other out. Ok, maybe Jamie's contribution is just excellent drug interaction advice. But in reality we all do something for a living and we all know someone, somewhere that can probably make an excellent connection. So put your heads together, think about folks you know and meanwhile, those who want to participate, put together a posting of your work and what kind of connections you might find useful. For example: maybe Jason needs to look into new decor for a new location. My business partner's brother owns his own custom fabrication company in Florida that helps restaurants with facades, themes, custom fixtures, etc. So we all know someone that can help with your work. Thoughts?

St. Patrick's Day and Clan Hegarty

Ok Clan,
So Saint Patrick's Day is coming up, and truly one of my favorite holidays. And no, not because of the Guinness. I am a frequent patron of Harrington's Pub in Wakefield and have been doing some videos with them over the past couple of years. The owners are from County Cork and County Dublin and one goes by the Name of Dan O'Neill...and O'Neill is a relation to Hegarty. So 'tis a wee world indeed. Harrington's has an Irish Seisun every Wednesday night. Local musicians pop in and they just start jamming, it is an excellent take if you are ever looking for a taste of the Ol' Sod. So whatever your plans for the holiday enjoy and be safe.

Now Saint Patrick's Day also makes me think of ancestors and the such. Uncle Davey has been working on some pretty cool ancestry stuff and has gathered some excellent images. I'd like to use this blog for that as well. To add stories about relatives, share thoughts of Clan members passed and start to develop some geneology elements that we can share; pictures, stories, interesting facts. So if you have something to share, do so. Then maybe I can actually pull it together into a DVD format and send copies to the entire Clan...no promises...but just maybe.

Slainte!

Political Season

Well I think it is about time we started talking about the political season. You know we all have opinions. So I am curious as to how the Clan is looking at the upcoming elections. I know I really don't fit into either major political party and really fall more towards Consitutionalist. My feeling is that we need more personal responsibility, that our military is to be used for defense and not nation-building. I think the government is too big and certainly stepping way beyond their definition as established by our founding fathers. I don't think it is anyone's business about who marries who (gay marriage) and I certainly don't think the government has a right to eavesdrop on conversations in the name of national security. I think "Pro-life" is a stupid name...who isn't pro-life? I don;t believe in abortion, but if one feels the need for an abortion that is between you, your partner and your God. And if an abortion is wanted, don't look to tax-payers to pick up the cost. I also think that campaign finance reform is desperately needed...otherwise the richest guy or gal wins. I think if you crossed the border into the US illegally, you are not entitled to citizenship, that you go to the back of the line. Well how is that for firing up the ol' blog?

New Year...New Plans?

Ok, So now that everyone has gotten past th eholidays and we are fully in 2008...what are your plans for the year ahead? I have plans for home and for business. For business; my partner and I are looking at moving to new office space. Arlington has been great, but we find that we need slightly more professional digs and larger offices. We are actually looking at some space in Stoneham...clearly I am never getting out of that town. We are also planning a shoot in Italy and Greece during the summer months for our client Brian Moore Internaitonal Tours. If you are thinking about traveling to the Old Sod or want to explore the Scottish side of the clan (oh and there is one me lasses and laddies)...I suggest checking out this company at www.bmit.com

On the homefront, my plan is to work with my mom more in helping to provide additional support for my dad. As you all know his cognitive skills aren't quite as sharp as they once were and most likely the impact will be greater as time progresses. When I last spoke with Auntie Marie, one of her concerns was my mom and dad, I promised her I would be there more for them...so it is time to keep that promise.

So that's what I got going on...your turn.

Oh, I see...

I didn't notice the title bar before. I don't mean to muddle things up.

Nona and I just got back from a day of house hunting. Didn't see anything we liked enough to say "this is the one" though. Disappointing. We thought we would have found something by now, but the houses in our price range have too much wrong with them, and the ones we like are too much money. But we will keep on looking. There is bound to be a happy medium out there somewhere...

Jamie
So I write something here and I start a new blog? neat. Now if I only had something to say.....

Brand New Blog

Well as members of the clan spread out throughout the country, I thought it might be wise to find a way to keep everyone in the loop with life and all the wonderfully fantastic changes and events that occur in it. So, here it is Clan Hegarty blog. Oh so very "now". Post updates in your life, post pictures, tell humorous stories, or just vent. That way everyone has one spot to get caught up and we no longer need to rely on that archaic form of communication..the phone.

So welcome and let ir ride!
